Remote management over the Web can use a server-side Web service that create CDO for Exchange Management (CDOEXM) objects to perform Microsoft® Exchange management tasks.
Important Because of issues with multiple-hop authentication and unexpected results observed in multithreaded runtime environments, Microsoft does not support using CDOEXM in Microsoft ASP.NET pages, ASP Web pages or in Web services. To create Web-based Exchange management applications that use CDOEXM functionality, Microsoft recommends wrapping CDOEXM in a Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) package and calling that package from your application.
Remote management applications can also use Microsoft Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) in any language compatible with Component Object Model (COM) programming. For more information about using WMI in Exchange management applications, read the WMI reference section.
Scripts have security restrictions when they are run out of the administrator's process. For running scripts out of process, take one of the following two actions to have administrator rights:
- Run the scripts within a Script Host that has administrator privileges.
- Use the script to create objects that obtain administrator privileges. Then, perform the management tasks from within the objects.
For obtaining administrative privileges outside of an administrator's process, see Exchange Management Security.
