E-mail Addresses Stored as Active Directory Paths

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

E-mail addresses are converted (stored) as Microsoft® Active Directory® paths when specific CDO for Exchange Management (CDOEXM) interface properties are set. Some of these properties can receive recipients as e-mail addresses (such as IMailboxStore, ForwardTo, or Delegates).

For example, setting IMailboxStore.ForwardTo to user1@somewhere.microsoft.com results in the ForwardTo value being set to the Active Directory path (for example, cn=Private MDB,cn=First Storage Group,...).

To complete a LDAP URL by using an Active Directory path, you typically must add "LDAP://server/" and "CN=first tree item."

For more information about the use of Active Directory in Microsoft Exchange, see Active Directory and CDOEXM.
