Run a Management Agent in a Separate Process
For this procedure, you can configure a management agent to be run as a separate process from other Microsoft® Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 R2 processes. To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the FIMSyncAdmins security group.
To run a management agent in a separate process
On the Tools menu, click Management Agents.
In Management Agents, click a management agent that you want to run in a separate process.
On the Actions menu, click Properties.
In Management Agent Designer, click Properties.
On the Properties page, select Runthis management agent in a separate process.
Important
For management agents created with Management Agent Designer, it is recommended that you only run a management agent in a separate process for troubleshooting purposes.
Important
By default, the first time that you create a new management agent by using Management Agent Designer, it is run in the same memory space as the Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Synchronization Service. This improves overall performance by consuming less memory space, but if the management agent process fails, it may cause a disruption to the Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Synchronization Service. After you finish creating a management agent, you can change the management agent to run as a separate process in its own memory space. This reduces the risk of a management agent process affecting the Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Synchronization Service, but decreases overall performance by increasing the amount of memory space needed.
Important
For management agents configured for password management, the password extension will be run in the same memory space as the associated management agent.
Note
For management agents for extensible connectivity, the Run this management agent in a separate process option is selected by default.
Note
If you run a management agent in a separate process, it does not affect any associated rules extensions. You can also configure a rules extension to run in a separate process. For management agents configured for password management, the password extension will be run in the same process (memory space) as the associated management agent. A password extension cannot be configured to run in a separate process from the associated management agent.
