What is a Catalog Set?

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

A catalog set is a group of one or more catalogs that you make available to different customers or organizations. You can determine what catalogs a customer sees on your site by creating catalog sets. When you create a catalog set, the catalogs from which the catalog sets originate do not change.

You can include base or virtual catalogs in a catalog set, and you can control which customers have access to which catalog sets. For example, if you have a frequent buyers program and you give the members of this program discounts or incentives that you do not give to the general public, you can create a catalog set with specific catalogs in it, and then let only the members of the program access those catalogs.

If you have products in separate catalogs and you want to give access to those catalogs to a few select customers, you can make that catalog part of a special catalog set to which only those select customers would have access.

Catalog Set Types

You can create two types of catalog sets:

  • Static. A catalog set that lets you select which catalogs you want to include in the catalog set.

  • Dynamic. A catalog set that lets you create the catalog set based on an expression.
