How to Change the Default (Global) Authentication Account

This topic provides steps about how to change the default (global) authentication credentials for a server by using the Commerce Server Staging (CSS) Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

Note

The initial assignment made to the default authentication account is the CSS service account that was defined when you configured CSS on the server.

By default, CSS uses the default authentication account to authenticate with other remote CSS servers during a deployment unless you specify a project-level or destination-level authentication account. The default authentication account also runs scheduled tasks for projects. For example, you schedule a project to stage business data once a day at a specified time.

You cannot change the default authentication account for a remote server. To change the default authentication account for a remote CSS server, you must log on to the remote CSS server and change the server property from the CSS MMC locally.

Do the following tasks to change the default (global) authentication credentials for the CSS servers.

To configure a project to use default (global) authentication

  1. Create and configure the default authentication account for a CSS server.

Create the default authentication account as a Windows local account and add it to the CSS Operators group. Or, create the default authentication as a domain account and add it to the CSS Operators group on each CSS server.

For information about how to create and configure CSS authentication accounts, see How to Create and Configure CSS Authentication Accounts.

  2. Log on to the remote CSS server whose default authentication account you want to change.

  3. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 , and then click Commerce Server Staging.

  4. In the Commerce Server Staging console, in the left pane, expand Commerce Server Staging, right-click <server name>, and select Properties.
