LIVE Alive

So Xbox LIVE is back up and if Major Nelson's chatroom was any indication, not a moment too soon. So what's new with Xbox LIVE? Well, not a whole lot. The work done was in preparation for the Xbox LIVE features coming on down the road. But we were able to sneak a few upgrades to Xbox.com into the maintenance.

My Xbox has received a total makeover, incorporating a lot of community feedback to better-feature your avatar and your friends. You’ll also notice that we’ve moved our editorial content to the right side, hopefully making it easier to see our big news and community events.

Why don't you guys address the negative changes since the "upgrade" or whatever you did. Lagging, dropped connections. This experience has been ruined and you guys have no clue - read the forums!

And another thing - what happened to support? Why is it down?  Please wake up and offer some service to your loyal customers - who are becoming less loyal by the minute.

Sorry, Carlos.  I am pretty sure that I saw an article saying that Xbox Originals and back-compat are done and done.  It was one of the non-flashy news items that came out of E3 on 6/2.

I persoanally love the new Xbox.com, it's more convenient, and I lover seing my most recent friends in full view. I also love tht it shows their game like it is in the console.  I love the new way you can message people too directly. I can't wait till Novemeber for the new stuff. I just wish it came sooner.

The new design is, sadly, not really an improvement. It uses up too much room at the top of the page and there's no way you can get to a friend's games page to COMPARE achievements, which surely is a bug. On a friend's page the game links just display your OWN achievements. Also, the pop-up menus on the friends list page are stumbled upon accidentally. There are SO many Web 2.0+ pages out there, why's xbox.com so Web 1.0-ish? :-(

In response to mnemo, I'm not sure what you're talking about on some of the issues. If you go to a friend's page, that page shows their achievements in the game, not your own. (Just mousing over the friend on your own My Xbox page gives you more information on that friend, you actually have to click on the avatar to get the friends' page.) Clicking on the game icons on the friend's page will compare their achievements with yours, or you can also click the "Compare Games" link.

I rather wish there was a way to go back to the old style. A list of my most recent friends is useless, a realtime list of who's online is much mor useful for a quick glance. Also, the whole thing takes up too much space. Scrolling down to see who was online is silly. And the pop-ups when you mouse over a person is annoying. We have pop-up blockers for a reason. I don't like them incorporated with the page itself. Just tossing around personal preferences. The old style was better. At least from a gamer's perspective, more info, less fluff. Keep to the basics and everything is much simpler.
