Mississippi leads the way: 3 MCM's a requirement in State IT RFP
I think every MCM and 'MCM-to-be' out there should feel real good about this one.
In short: the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services will be managing and reporting the use of Stimulus funds. To accomplish their mission the State will use Active Directory, Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008. The State, being smart about technology, understands that skilled people combined with great technology delivers results / on time / on budget. Who do they trust to lead these efforts?

I imagine a transcript showing the certification should work just fine :)Anonymous

Mr./Mrs. Anonymous - I don't know. Maybe they can afford it, maybe not, maybe they did it to disqualify other vendors (having some experience here,I doubt it, but...maybe) or maybe not. The key thing is: they knew to ask for it, and they won't be the last to do so. To me, it's a sign that people are starting to understand what MCM is all about, they're aware of it, and there'll be more people who'll ask for it in the future. Cheers, PerAnonymous

While this is great on the one hand it looks like they don't know exactly what they really look for. For example how can one get a 60 months experience in hyper-v and ADFS? Still great for them to ask for an MCM !Anonymous

I don't buy it. While it's great that the name of MCM is out there are people are looking for it, there's no way that the state of Mississippi is actually issuing an RFP looking for three MCMs. They either clearly do not understand the requirements of the certification or they are (as pointed out earlier) intentionally trying to disqualify everyone but the partner that someone has already "chosen". I do business with another state government and we see stuff like this all of the time. Whoever put the RFP together looks to see what the highest level of certification is in a certain technology and includes it in the RFP. We regularly see RFPs for helpdesk/PC techs listing the MCSE as a requirement. Or even more hilariously, we see people listing an "MCSE on Windows 2008" as a requirement. There are still other cases where we've had RFPs come through the door looking for an Exchange admin where the requirements were listed as "CompTIA A+, MCSE, and MCITP on Exchange 2007 required". We've actually had people disqualified from those for not having the A+ cert. Certifications are great, but just because it's in an RFP doesn't mean it's an actual requirement.
