A moment of silence please...

...for all of the people that were let go by our mothership today. As I'm sure everyone knows: 1,400 people today, 5,000 total over the next 18 months were / will be laid off by Microsoft.

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, and I don't care who you are and how much or how little you deserve it, losing your means to put food on the table and a roof over your head, and care for your family - especially in these times - is tragic. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and I'm certainly counting my blessings since my badge still works as of 4:44pm, and no one tapped me on the shoulder today or invited me to a meeting with HR.

Anyway - a moment of silence and best wishes to all those who were affected. I'll do what I can to help those I know.
