PowerPivot for Excel 2013 error when opening the Manage Window

We’ve had reports of an error when trying to open the PowerPivot for Excel 2013 'Manage' window after installation. This error does not happen for an Admin user.

The message received is:  "We couldn't load the Data Model. This may be because the Data Model in this workgroup is damaged"

In this circumstance, originally, the reason for this error was by design and caused by modified user permissions. Read further for more information, but refer to the UPDATE section at the bottom for changes made and other resolutions now available.

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, the PowerPivot add-in required the user to have permission for "SeIncreaseWorkingSetPrivilege" which is policy Increase a process working set.

This policy setting determines which users can increase or decrease the size of a process's working set. The working set of a process is the set of memory pages currently visible to the process in physical RAM memory.
These pages are resident and available for an application to use without triggering a page fault. The minimum and maximum working set sizes affect the virtual memory paging behavior of a process.

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, by default, standard users have this permission. To resolve the issue, add the USER group and allow these permissions.

How to check the permissions:

1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor: gpedit.msc

2. Navigate to: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment

3. Locate Policy: Increase a process working set

4. Open tab: Local Security Setting

Is it set up to allow the USERS group?

I followed the above steps and Users is allowed as well as Windows Manager/Windows Manager Group.  It still doesn't allow me to view the data model.  I am running Windows 8 with Excel 2013.

Win 7 Excel 2013 - this do not help on my computer. And run Excel "As adminstrator" too - I try press Manage in new Excel Workbook - "We couldn't load the Data Model. This may be because the Data Model in this workgroup is damaged"

Adding my $ .02 that this error is also happening to me and I've tried this proposed fix as well as others I've found on the web, all to no avail. Running as Administrator would be a welcome workaround, but alas it makes no difference for me!

I had to try this suggestion, and it WORKED for me!! Running it as the Admin allowed me to open the document without issue. After opening the document, when I went to Edit the Power Query tab (that I thought was causing the issue) and it gave me another error "DataSource.Error: Could not find a part of the path 'drive mapping letter:folderfolderfile' Details: etc. Once I modified the location to a UNC path the issue went away completely. So I guess it's better to use UNC paths whenever possible.

I should've mentioned, I didn't make the changes noted above (not yet, anyway). All I did was run Excel as an Administrator and opened my document.

I'm still having trouble understanding the resolution needed. How do I actually increase the working set? It appears that I have access, based on the above notes, but I don't understand how to actually increase the working set. Thoughts?
