Reports from the field:

  • Strange shading on aircraft that blinks with the lights: this is a bug with the aircraft self-shadowing code. It will be fixed in the final but in the meantime you can either turn off your lights or disable self-shadowing (in Settings | Display | Aircraft).
  • Autogen perfomance (stutters) : we recently found and fixed a bug in the way vertex buffers were being handled for autogen that helped stutters significantly.
  • Nav light strobe rate: yeah, it's wrong. Will fix.

    Thanks, Mike!
About the Autogen Vertex handling-is that something related to back walls being rendered in the buildings? Just being curious...

    Mike,

Instead of a preview or demo, you guys could have given this to the community as a Public Beta.  At least that's the way everyone seems to be treating it anyways.

While you're talking about lights. All lightsources are still (as in FS2004) totally fake and won't work with 3D glasses. This and improved flightdynamics was all I expected from FS X. :-)

While your talking about screen corruption....
With my multi-monitor setup, I create a new view (any type but spot is the most obvious) drag it to the second monitor and the graphics gets all messed up - artifacts all over the place... Seems to be better if its looking toward the ground (the sky is worse)..

Other than that, this demo is great - the performance in dual monitor mode (even with the corruption) is fantastic compared to FS9.

One other problem, in Vista July CTP (64bit) the game in unplayable - the "loading 100%" screen keeps flickering ontop of the display - making it impossible to play... That may be the beta2 Nvidia drivers I guess...

    My system:
    AMD 4400+, 2Gb RAM, NV 7800 GTX, Xp 64bit & Vista 64bit (July CTP)

Keep up the good work - really looking forward to the release of FSX :)

WOW! I am so happy to see some of the changes in the demo! The water looks fantastic, the planes look fantastic, the skies look great; I'm really looking forward to the full release!

Also as an Australian I am over the moon at the screenshots of the new Australian scenery - it looks like the FSX devs have done a marvelous job, as it really does look like Australia! Yaaay! :-) :-) :-)

I have one tiny comment about some of the autogen dynamic scenery - I clocked some of those cars driving around the island at over 140mph! That would make them all F1 cars! Some of the speedboats also seemed a little bit too speedy - they were hard to catch even in the ultralight!

Oh, might I add that the ultralight is tremendous fun? I love it!

Cheers, and thanks for what looks like a fantastic product!

The navligts, at least on the Baron, are positioned a bit outside the wing.

Maybe I'm missing something, but in the demo at least there is no Settings | Display | Aircraft :)

But you can turn off self shadowing by editing FSX.cfg or editing a saved settings config.
