Many Thanks, Intrepid Demo Users!

A quick update on the Flight Simulator X demo:

Thanks to all of you who've been clicking "Send to Microsoft" whenever the demo has produced the unfortunate "Program Error" dialog. It appears a number of you are encountering a crash in the same tricky bit of code. We'd seen this once or twice but it's been very hard to track down here. However now that we've confirmed you're seeing it too we're taking a second hard look at what's going on. Keep sending in those reports!

Also, some diligent configuration file detectives noticed that the mysterious TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT setting wasn't working right. Nice work! One more bug fixed. Now, for those of you who down't know what this is or what it does, um, move along--nothing to see here. Config setting? Did someone mention something about a config setting?

Talking of bug fixing: I just want to be sure that you are also going to fix the bug with the autogen buildings using double sided materials (reported some days ago by myself)? And I am a bit curious to know if this bug was only present in this region or world wide?

    Best regards

    Kim Dahl,

I've seen this also. I've seen autogen buildings without roofs, if you mean that. I've already reported that too.

While also trying to find some birds, I've found only their shadows, literally. There were birds' shadows moving very naturally around a lighthouse, but there were no birds themselves :( Hope it's not my system to blame.

Ilya, you're probably seeing the actual birds, but without textures.

I'd love to report my crashes, but I can't seem to make it crash. I'll take that as a good sign for my computer :).

    Mats Nylund,

Thanks, this is and idea didn't came to my mind...
Would you please advise me what textures to look for, if you know? I played a little with FSX setup, also tried to add/remove some addons, so maybe I have just inadvertently deleted those files?

Some of the textures were not included on purpose to keep the file size down below that of a CD.

Its the same reason you see cars driving around with only the frame and no body.

There are a lot of textures that just weren't included in the demo, and the textures for the scenery birds are among them. So normally you won't see them because FSX apparently makes objects with missing textures transparent. (Note that the "Living World" animals are also not included in the demo, the birds are animated scenery objects that are part of various scenery elements. Some of which are missing textures too.)

    Hi,

You need to look in this blog further down - he mentions how to fix msxml4 errors.

    Hope this helps,
