Fault-tolerance in Windows Azure SQL Database

A few years ago when we started building Windows Azure SQL Database, our Cloud RDBMS service, we assumed that fault-tolerance was a basic requirement of any cloud database offering. Our cloud customers have a diverse set of needs for storage solutions but our focus was to address the needs of the customers who needed an RDBMS for their application. For example, one of our early adopters was building a massive ticket reservation system in Windows Azure.
