Featured App of the Day: Wead for Windows Phone
Could you please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
Computers fascinates me and I’m more of an enthusiast in Programming rather an expert. It’s like a hobby that is very natural for me more than anything else. I recently completed my bachelors in Computer Engineering from Bahria University Islamabad and now I’m working as a freelancer. I’m also running a blog on Microsoft technologies and tutorials. Previously, I’ve worked on Android and Java Applications.
How the idea of the Wead came to you?
Most of the applications I make are more like for me than for the others. If I need to something and I can make it easier with my programming skills, I do it. I would either make a phone app for it or Windows 8 app for it. It’s like personal convenience. So, I’m quite active on social media and the idea was more like a personal convenience for me where I can share what I’m feeling in a visual form rather in words. I guess the proverb “A picture is worth a thousand words” is what would describe my app.
Why you decided to implement this idea specifically on Windows8/Windows Phone/Azure?
Previously, I have worked on Android and Java applications. But then I started to work with Microsoft technologies (Windows Phone apps, Windows 8 apps, Windows Azure) and they were a lot easier implement and had an elegance. The tools are easily available and the community working on it are really helpful. So when I started working on this app I’ve been working on Windows Phone for a while, and that’s why I decided to stay with it.
What resources on Microsoft or community side you found most helpful while working on the app? Could you please take us on a quick tour to understand your application better?
My application is a photography accessory that edits a picture to make it a visual update of weather. The services that it use are Web Content / Network, Camera Capture, accessing and editing Image Gallery / Photos, Sharing on social networks. When I started to work on this app, I had never worked on some of these services but I found it incredibly easy because Microsoft provides you a lot of support. First of all there is the MSDN which provides you support through the community and sample codes for small programs on which you can create something a lot better. Then there is Store support who work with great interest to solve your problems if any.
What are your interests behind technology?
Talking about Microsoft technologies in general, I would say it’s fast, resourceful and expandable. And it’s very easy to reach, that would appeal everybody out there.
Any plans for new apps or projects in general?
I already have other apps on Windows Phone market GoGlue, W8T etc. and currently I am working on these and Wead. My plan is to improve them and take them to a certain level before moving on. But yes, I’ve a few more ideas that I would like to work on once I’m done with my current goal.
What would you advise to Developers in the region who also would like to become Pakistan Hero?
This is what I always advise other developers that they should follow what they like, there is no simple solution or shortcuts. Try to make the world a better place and the nature rewards you equally. So, use this power of technology to make the world a better place.
