Featured App of the Day: #KiaSceneHai for Windows Phone

Hi, We're back with a brand new app #KiaSceneHai by a local startup; StringBlue from Lahore that is founded by two of our Microsoft Student Partners. The app is about featuring local events of users interest and has made quite a buzz in local community recently. The startup is reportedly working on a Windows Store app around same solution. We stepped in a conversation with the developers and here's what they have to say,

Could you please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I am Daniyal Shahid and with me are Ahmad Munir and Junaid Gill. We all are Computer Science undergraduate students at FAST-NU Lahore.

How the idea of the #KiaSceneHai came to you?

The idea of the application was a unique experience for us, naming the application around a question “Kia Scene Hai?” explained the whole idea within itself. It’s a question asked by every other person when planning to go out and there it was, an event discovery portal that everyone could relate to.

Why you decided to implement this idea specifically on Windows8/Windows Phone/Azure?

Ahmad and I are both students and had little to no experience in development on mobile devices and when we had a go at the Windows Phone Software Development Kit, the learning was so quick that we fell in love with it. We could see our application’s component coming together in such an amazing way that we enjoyed it even more. Once we had our Windows Phone application ready, all we had to do was connect the core of our application with Windows 8 App and there it was, we had everything ready.

Our website https://kiascenehai.pk was already hosted at Azure servers where we had our API deployed and connecting everything took no hassle.

What resources on Microsoft or community side you found most helpful while working on the app? Could you please take us on a quick tour to understand your application better?

While working at our application at Microsoft Innovation Center, the whole experience was facilitated by the community like feel the center has to help us to build our product. The technical support from the interns was amazing. If we had a problem with some piece of our code, somebody would readily volunteer to help us through, Microsoft Innovation Center is a community within itself.

What are your interests behind technology?

Technology has always been a fascinating thing to us, it always excited us, maybe an amazing app that comes out to entertain us or some idea we like and we could always code it and see how it turns out.

Any plans for news apps or projects in general?

Not as yet, we plan to extend our application to roll out more and more features for our users.

What would you advise to Developers in the region who also would like to become Pakistan Hero?

Imagine. That’s one word which has always inspired our team. This might not make sense under this question but if you imagine creating something amazing, the passion to develop it for the community and especially for Pakistan will always take you through. People at Microsoft are here to help put Pakistan on the map only if we, the developers, make it our passion to build for the community.
