Microsoft Office 2003 now recognizes the Romansh language

The Swiss press talked a lot about it this week. It is now possible for the 35,000 native speakers of the Romansh language to use an adapted version of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. They even have a spell-checker that was created just for that project. The Romansh version of Microsoft Office 2003 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Switzerland web site.

 

I must admit I like this idea of preserving minority languages and defending them with language technologies. It gives a very special and pleasant flavor to our job…
