Update: I've re-posted my wallpaper images. Enjoy!

9/29/2011: My last day at Microsoft is September 30, 2011. Because I'll no longer be able to update this blog (it's been graciously provided and hosted by Microsoft), I'm moving to a new blog at https://blog.mikeswanson.com. I'll eventually re-post my images there.

In the meantime, enjoy my Windows 7 Theme!

  Thanks for the kinds words and encouragement, everyone. I really enjoy taking these photos, and now that others appreciate them too, I often look for situations that make "good wallpaper." If anyone has some suggestions, I'd be glad to try to incorporate them into future photos.

  My screen only loaded one thumnail for some reason, but i didnt even bother to wait or try to refresh. I just clicked on the download all and nabbed them. You have an execelent eye for a great shot. I dont take them but my father is a shutter bug and I couldnt help but learn. Your work is amazing. Keep it up.

  Rafael: Although I generally agree with Nick, I have found that my Nikon COOLPIX 5700 (since replaced by the 8700/8800) takes fantastic macro photos. Almost all of the images on this page were taken with it. The swivel LCD screen allows me to hold the camera in very awkward and unique orientations that I would find difficult (if not impossible) to accomplish with my Canon Rebel XT.

  Spring is here! I've just added five new images: Flower 17, Flower 18, Leaf 27, Leaf 28, and Leaf 29. As I mentioned in the updated post above, Leaf 28 is a little too "busy" for my tastes, but others may like it.

  These photos evoke many different feelings or "words" rather... like the fuzzy leaf for "warmth" or the close up of a leaf and it's texture, "life". Or maybe... that's just me :)

  I've been thinking about buying a macro lens for my Canon Rebel XT. Well, my neighbor let me borrow his Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens today, and I have to say that I'm very impressed! I'm sure I'll own one soon. In the meantime, enjoy the new images.

  Simply stunning photographs! I love them all. It would be better if they all used the sRGB color profile instead of Adobe RGB. People without color managed apps won't be able to see the true colors of the images.

  FYI...just added eight new images: Flower 24, Flower 25, Leaf 40, Leaf 41, Leaf 42, Rock 01, Shell 01, and Shell 02. These were all taken on a trip down the Oregon coast this past week. The shell photos might be too "busy" for good wallpaper, but as usual, someone will probably like them. Enjoy!

  @Ulas: Most of the newer shots were taken with a Canon Rebel XT and a Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens. The sharpness, color saturation, and lack of visible grain is a big improvement over the Nikon 5700 (no surprise, since the Canon has a much larger sensor). However, I'd guess about 1/2 or more of the shots (older, lower-numbered) are from the 5700.

  FYI...I just added seven new images on 8/19/2007: Flower 27, Flower 28, Flower 29, Flower 30, Flower 31, Leaf 45, and Water 07. I posted Leaf 45, because I think some people will like it. However, it is a busy photo, and it might not make the most effective wallpaper. Water 07 is a purposely-blurred photo of the Mediterranean Sea. Enjoy!

  FYI...I added ten new images today: Gourd 01, Gourd 02, Gourd 03, Gourd 04, Gourd 05, Gourd 06, Gourd 07, Gourd 08, Leaf 46, and Pine Cone 01.   Hi from Melbourne, Australia. Wow. Your pictures are really amazing. I think they area really beautifully done. Incredibly professional finish. Thank you so much for posting them on your blog and making them available to everyone. They really add to the quality of the images on the internet instead of the low-standard pictures that have proliferated. Really easy to find on google too with "wallpaper flower macro" and the like on 'extra large' image setting.

  Stunning.  Absolutely STUNNING!  It's interesting how simple subjects (and talent) can produce amazing results. How about some Thanksgiving related pics...maybe a couple more for Christmas? I love your more 'abstract' view of things Christmas-related, not the same ol' Santas and snow. Great stuff!

  Incredible! Very nice detail on the images - makes you want to reach out and touch the screen. Now I have to find a utility that cycles through pictures in a folder and sets them as wallpapers, just like Windows 7!

  Thanks for the updates - I try to change my wallpaper with the seasons and it's time to move away from cold winter images to something green and warm-looking, even if it's still cold outside.  I always check the pictures here first (well, after I check my own photos) and unless I have something very particular in mind I usually find something suitable.

  On 1/18/2010, I added 4 new images, "fixed" 24 images that had incorrect color spaces, added more large images, and cleaned-up the metadata on all images. The new images are Leaf 71, Leaf 72, Leaf 73, and Reflection 01, all taken on a recent cruise on Oasis of the Seas (a beautiful ship, by the way).
