You can now download a release candidate of the SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Deployment Toolkit which adds a plug-in to Visual Studio .NET that allows you to create an integrated package that includes both the application and the MSDE database. If you've ever tried to include MSDE in one of your deployment projects, you know how difficult it can be, so this is a very welcome addition. I've been working on an application for the past year that deploys a database along with the end-user application, and we resorted to InstallShield to avoid the hassles of manually integrating the MSDE setup.
