Want a new way to visualize the news? Here’s a web application called Newsmap that takes information from Google’s News site, aggregates it, and displays it using a treemap visualization algorithm. I’m not sure how useful it is in practice, but it’s at least a very interesting technology demo.

    There's a more useful implementation on SmartMoney (http://smartmoney.com/) that, I believe, uses the stock purchase/sell numbers to determine the size of the blocks. Requires java. It's listed on the Newsmap site, so you may already have seen this. Very cool presentation technique.
