Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar Beta

This is pretty cool. I haven't done serious web development for almost three years now (!), but if I were still doing it, I'd want this. Download the freely available Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar, and add the following capabilities to your browser (from the site):

  • Explore and modify the document object model (DOM) of a Web page.
  • Locate and select specific elements on a Web page through a variety of techniques.
  • Selectively disable Internet Explorer settings.
  • View HTML object class names, ID's, and details such as link paths, tab index values, and access keys.
  • Outline tables, table cells, images, or selected tags.
  • Validate HTML, CSS, WAI, and RSS Web feed links.
  • Display image dimensions, file sizes, path information, and alternate (ALT) text.
  • Immediately resize the browser window to a new resolution.
  • Selectively clear the browser cache and saved cookies. Choose from all objects or those associated with a given domain.
  • Choose direct links to W3C specification references, the Internet Explorer team weblog (blog), and other resources.
  • Display a fully featured design ruler to help accurately align objects on your pages.

While I'm on the subject, I always found ProxyTrace and Fiddler to be very useful tools. They both allow you to log and inspect HTTP traffic, something that too many developers tend to ignore.

    It's really amusing to see how MS gloats about introducing so called "real cool" things that are nothing more than a shameless rip-off from open-source. Ever heard or seen the developer toolbar in Firefox that's been there for ages ??

    Guys, atleast be modest enough to give credit to ppl who come up with something original!!

    Firefox User: is it somehow less cool because it's like something you've seen before? It certainly doesn't change how cool or useful it is to me. And I'm sure we'd give credit if we were aware that something like this existed before. There's so much technology to focus on that most of us don't have the time to be completely up-to-speed on everything else out there.

    The IE team released the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview build to coincide with the MIX06 conference....
