Great Microsoft Developer Tools Roadmap
The Visual Studio Developer Center has published an excellent Microsoft Developer Tools Roadmap. With so much new and enhanced technology being delivered with Visual Studio .NET 2005 (formerly known as “Whidbey”), this is an excellent one-page overview of Language and IDE enhancements (can anyone say refactoring!?), changes to the .NET Framework, integration with Microsoft Office, how SQL Server 2005 fits into the picture (stored procedures in C#...drool), and some great stuff for Enterprise Development and Lifecycle Support (“Whitehorse,” SCM, MSBuild, etc.). There’s also a very brief bit about Orcas, the codename for the follow-up version of Visual Studio .NET that’s due in the Longhorn timeframe. A worthwhile read for anyone using our tools.
