Want to know what Microsoft software is installed on your PC and network?
From time to time, I see or receive questions about how to find out what Microsoft software is installed on a PC or on a network. Doing a software inventory is a very important step in helping your business and that of your clients to maintain a good Software Asset Management (SAM) plan as well as ensure you are properly covered from a licensing perspective.
To help with determining what Microsoft software you have installed, we have the updated Microsoft Software Inventory Analyzer (MSIA) 5.0. Using this free tool from Microsoft, you can generate an inventory of core Microsoft products installed on your local computer, or throughout a network. The MSIA is built specifically to be a starting point to working with SAM, and to that end, it will work with networks that have 250 computers or less.
