Officially announced: Small Business Competency in the Microsoft Partner Network

Here is some very exciting news for all of our partners that focus on the small business segment. Today, Julie Bennani made the official announcement of a Small Business Competency coming to the Microsoft Partner Network, with a launch date of June, 2012! (You can read Julie’s post in her blog in the “Perspectives” section of the Digital WPC site) I believe this is a great addition for all of you partners focused on small business because of not only the benefits of the competency itself that you will receive, but you will now also have the ability to differentiate yourself based on your skills through your silver or gold Small Business Competency.

From the initial launch of the Microsoft Partner Network, we’ve been saying that we would be evaluating the need for a small business competency and talking with and listening to partner input and feedback around the topic. Well, as Julie says in her post, we have designed this new competency based on the input and feedback we have received from you. I would like to personally thank all of you for all of the input and feedback you have given us as we went through this process. There have been many fantastic conversations about this topic with partners, including a really passionate session at WPC last year with the PALs, for those of you who were there and remember that one. Smile SBSCPAL

The small business segment is a HUGE opportunity and we look forward to working with each and every one of you through the Microsoft Partner Network, and the new Small Business Competency.

I don't know, if I should be looking forward to the competency or if I should fear that change. Competency means 2 or 4 MCPs and nothing is said about opportunities of very small partners till now. I hope, Eric, that we will hear more details asap to have enough time for that transformation till June. I hope to say: Thank you, good thing & yes, now we can be somebody. I do not want to feel like loosing time with all certifications & the engagement in MPN at the end.

@ Rolf - We will announce more program details in April but, no need to fear. We've adjusted the requirements for small partners to be eligible for this competency as well.
