If you are going to go on a open sores software rant, I would highly recommend you don't mention OpenOffice as a candidate to encourage people to switch ;)

True granularity of security priveleges? Another puzzling statement. owner-group-world style of privleges is archaic and certainly nowhere near as granular as NT ACL's. Do some research yourself there buddy.

And thanks for the link to Microsoft. I wasn't sure where it was ;)

I take it you haven't seen the 2.0 beta releases of OpenOffice? The 1.1 series was rather disappointing but 2.0 is really very good.

As far as I am aware, NT doesn't allow 'append access but not overwrite access' and the like. It doesn't allow temporary privilege escalation for certain applications only. It insists on having an administrator/root account, unlike the SELinux. You are right in that I don't know about ACL. Please tell me more.

Lastly, the link to MS seems to be automatically placed by this blog in some idiotic, and needless, attempt to Googlebomb.

Anyway, the point was that it's easy enough to use pretty much only Libre and Open Source software on a Windows platform for all your developer needs. This makes switching to a Linux-based distro (or a BSD, or whatever) rather easy.
