Learn how Microsoft Manages its Cloud-Scale Infrastructure at Datacenter Dynamics Converged Seattle
Tim McDowd, Senior Manager
Global Foundation Services
Whether you manage an IT environment or have considered a move to cloud services, do not miss the opportunity to hear from two of Microsoft's top data center experts at the upcomingDatacenter Dynamics ConvergedSeattle conference on September 12. In separate keynotes, Microsoft Data Center Services team General Managers Christian Belady and Gregg McKnight will discuss the company's global cloud-scale infrastructure evolution, share best practices, and answer questions about the company's cloud management strategies.
For Belady, the event marks a special occasion. In July, Datacenter Dynamics honored Belady with the2013 North American Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry. The organization will present the award to him at the Bellevue event. Belady, creator of the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) metric broadly used across the data center industry, will then reflect on his career, changes in the industry during that time, and discuss where he views the biggest opportunities to help accelerate innovation across the industry.
Following Belady, McKnight will take the stage to outline the strategic approach Microsoft takes to optimize energy and sustainability in the infrastructure. A sharp rise in demand for cloud services like Bing, Xbox Live, Office 365, and Skype, and the move to the Windows Azure platform has led to worldwide expansion of Microsoft data centers and fiber networks. McKnight will walk through how his energy strategy team analyzes power acquisition options and long-term costs before the company decides to build a data center. He will also highlight some of the exciting research underway at Microsoft to examine energy efficiency from the grid to the chip. ss (PUE) metric broadly used across the data center industry, will then reflect on his career, changes in the industry during that time, and discuss where he views the biggest opportunities to help accelerate innovation across the industry.
