Joining the OCP Foundation Board
Bill Laing, Corporate Vice President
Cloud & Enterprise
The following post is from Bill Laing, Corporate Vice President, Cloud & Enterprise, Microsoft.
Today the Open Compute Project Foundation announced that I am one of two new board members, effective immediately. This follows our announcement in January that Microsoft has joined OCP and has contributed the Microsoft cloud server specification to the community. I'm excited and honored to join the community's leadership and help guide OCP's continued efforts toward more open, efficient and sustainable datacenters.
I spoke at the OCP Summit and we received a tremendously positive reception from the attendees, as well as industry observers and press. Microsoft's participation and contributions reflect our long history in datacenter architecture and our commitment to fostering the adoption of cloud computing. As I said in my keynote at the Summit, Microsoft is unique in the industry because we offer both cloud platforms, like Azure, as well as software infrastructure for customers and partners to build their own cloud datacenters. As a result, we're able to provide a consistent hybrid platform customers can use in the way that's best for their business. The work we're doing with OCP to drive hardware innovation makes this Cloud OS strategy even more powerful.
