Database changes in MDT 2012 and MDT 2012 Update 1

A few people have asked about the changes made in MDT 2012 and MDT 2012 Update 1 in regards to the MDT database.  There aren’t that many changes, but here they are:

  • MDT 2012 RTW
    • Removed obsolete properties for Lite Touch: SkipAppsOnUpgrade.
    • Added new properties for ConfigMgr 2012: SMSTSPreferredAdvertID, SMSTSUDAUsers, SMSTSAssignUsersMode.
    • Added one new property for all scenarios, OSDStateStorePath.
  • MDT 2012 Update 1
    • Removed obsolete properties for SMS 2003: OSDINSTALLSILENT, OSDINSTALLPACKAGE, OSDINSTALLPROGRAM, OSDNEWMACHINENAME, OSDMP, OSDSITECODE.
    • Removed obsolete properties for Lite Touch: BuildID, SkipDeploymentType, SkipBuild, SkipBitLockerDetails, SkipDestinationDisk.

If you have an existing database, no properties will be removed; the properties marked as “removed” above just don’t get created in new databases.

If you have an existing database, the properties marked as “added” above will automatically be added to your existing database.

Any customizations that you might have made to your database should be preserved.

After upgrading from mdt 2012 to mdt 2012 update 1, the database tables in the mdt mmc console are empty, but when i browse the tables through sql express manager they are all still there. How do i bring them back into mdt 2012 update 1? Thanks.

Hi Michael, Have you got any best practice documentation for upgrading our MDT infrastructure from MDT 2010 Update 1 to MDT 2012 Update 1 to make the process as seamless as possible? We currently have 7 deployment servers running Server 2008 R2, WDS, WAIK and MDT 2010 Update 1. We are usink LDS's and we have a central MDT DB. Cheers, Matt

Hi, I'm currently in the process of upgrading from MDT 2010 Update 1 to MDT 2013. I would expect to see at least the property OSDStateStorePath in my upgraded database. I did check all of the tables (Settings, Descriptions), but I cannot find it. Which table is that being added to ? And what can I do if it is not there ? MDT 2013 is working ok , but I'm concerned that we might run into problems going forward. Yes, I did run the "Upgrade DeploymentShare" task. Thanks Thorsten
