Yes Virtual Server 2005 R2 is now free...as in click here to download it

Im interested...even though it was a reallly good thing...were you really surprised about this announcement? VMWare was also recently announced to be free so now you have a "free" choice comparison:)

So heres the things I like about Virtual Server 2005 R2...

Firstly youre fully supported by PSS with many of MSFT's products and thats a major thing really in a business environment.

Second - the performance lag we had with the original shipping Virtual Server 2005 is gone. Virtual Server 2005 R2 is lots faster now - something like 30% faster than before.

Third - clustering with VM's across hosts works great with VS2005R2.

Fourth - and importantly is that the VM Additions that improve overall VM performance are now supported on various Linux distros...

Fifth - it works on Windows XP too!
