VDI Sizing

We did some preliminary VDI capacity testing to identify the maximum VMs per server during the latest PoC and here are some results which can help you.The user is assumed a knowledge worker which runs Office 2007 and a LoB application.

  Server Configuration running client VMs:

  • DP quad core server with 32GB of RAM and 4 x1 GB NICs
  • Connected on an iSCSI storage-attached netwo
  • Windows XP VM: 512 MB of RAM
  • Windows Vista VM: 1GB of RAM

Results:

  • 45 Windows XP VMs per Server
  • 30 Windows Vista VMs per Server
