4 ways technology can help your family keep healthy

By Editorial team

We all want to be healthy, but it is easy for other obligations to get in the way. Technology not only helps you prioritise your tasks and be more productive, giving you more time to exercise, it can also help improve your and your family’s health.

Here are four ways how you can use your Microsoft device to get you and your family fitter, healthier and into the outdoors.

1. Be reachable, wherever your legs take you
For many, there’s nothing better than escaping the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life and going for a hike in the countryside, or a drive to the beach. It invigorates body and mind. But sometimes, especially as a parent, we need to remain reachable. The newly launched Lumia 950 is the perfect example of a product that helps you keep in touch, and fits in your pocket without weighing you down. Its protective Gorilla Glass will also save it from any falls onto the rough terrain. Best of all, it doubles as the perfect tool to capture the beautiful views along the way with its 20-megapixel camera, and automatically saves all your pictures and inspirational note-taking onto OneDrive.

2. Track your progress, understand your health
Living healthily should be part of everything you do. From ensuring you get enough good quality sleep and exercise, to understanding how your daily activities are impacting on your well-being. The Microsoft Band 2 helps you monitor your health as you go about your daily life. The Band tracks your heart rate, exercise, calorie burn and sleep quality. Then the Microsoft Health app presents these in easy-to-read graphs so that you can understand and improve your and your family’s fitness and wellness levels.

3. Store important health information safely
Any parent knows that when you have children their wellness becomes your concern too. Microsoft HealthVault is a useful feature of Microsoft Health, which allows you to keep all your family’s health records in one place, keep track of their allergies and medications and be better prepared for doctor’s visits and emergencies as a result.

4. Work from anywhere
Then there are those situations when you need some home time to fight off the latest bug, or maybe you want to leave work early to get to that gym class. Thanks to cloud technology, this is no longer a logisitical nightmare. You can keep collaborating with your colleagues using the co-authoring feature in Word or PowerPoint using your Windows powered laptop. And if you’re caught without your laptop, you can access the same documents on your Lumia with OneDrive and pick up where you left off.

It’s true what they say about a parent’s work – it’s never done. Mobile and cloud technology helps parents by giving them the freedom of mobility and acess to important insights into their families health. And, ultimately more time to focus on what matters, whether that’s family, work, fitness, or all three.
