Software Factories resources

I am in the process of writing the inaugural edition of the UK architecture newsletter due out in May(!) and was scratching my head as to what article or theme to lead with. Looking back over my Blog at possible topic areas I decided that Software Factories would be a good topic as it:

· Leads on from the whole area of modeling which is very high profile at the moment.

· Is an important element of how people in Microsoft are thinking about modeling.

· There is a great new book about it due out in July from two eminent MS Architects.

· An area I wanted to do some bit of research in!

So I pulled together all the materials I could find on Software Factories an put it together as an article on my blog at https://blogs.msdn.com/michael_platt/articles/140196.aspx. I will also add it into the UK architecture site at https://www.microsoft.com/uk/msdn/architecture/ in the very near future.

To quote one of the authors on this:
"SPLs are are precursor technology, with much less to offer than SFs. For example, the SPL community has done very little with automation (e.g., they have not made the tie to MDD or CBD). We view this integration and its codifcation in the software schema and software template as the key contribution of SFs. Indeed, SPLs are best seen as one of the innovations integrated by SFs, along with DSLs, SOA, etc. "

    So its more than SPL's!
