Solution: Embedded External URL references do not stay in the Active Browser when using MED-V Web Redirection

When using MED-V version 1, you have the option of controlling which web URLs will open in the host browser and which URLs will open in the guest browser. This only works with Internet Explorer because the mechanism MED-V uses to facilitate this is a simple BHO (Browser Helper Object) to intercept and redirect as needed. This feature is only available for the following Internet Explorer browsers:

· Host: Internet Explorer versions 6 through 8 depending on host operating system. For example, if the host operating system is Windows Vista, Internet Explorer versions 7 and 8 are supported.

· Guest: Internet Explorer versions 6 through 8 depending on host operating system. For example, if the guest operating system is Windows XP, Internet Explorer version 6, 7, and 8 are supported.

One issue in version 1 that you will want to be aware of involves the handling of embedded URLs inside of web pages. For example, assume you have created a URL redirection rule for contoso.com. When you type in https://www.contoso.com inside the host browser window, MED-V will spawn a new process of the guest browser with that URL in the address field. If the data received from https://www.contoso.com contains an embedded reference to https://resource.tailspin.com, then host browser instances will spawn as well.

This is a known issue in version 1 that is slated to be improved in the next release of MED-V.
