Installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 will upgrade Media Center to Media Center 2004

If you've got a Media Center PC running the first version of Media Center and didn't get an upgrade to Media Center 2004 then don't worry.  When you install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP you'll be upgraded to Media Center 2004.

If you want to get an early look at Service Pack 2 you can do so here.  Be warned though that's a preview version of Service Pack 2, if you're not comfortable with installing pre-release software then wait for the final release later.

    You mean the plain vanilla XP SP 2 also contains the Media Center 2004? Are you sure? Do you get the Media Center feature upgrades asa well as all the improvements to basic XP?

    I've been searching and searching for a Media Center SP2 to upgrade my Media Center 2002. I was coming up empty until I saw this ray of hope from you. Please explain it to me some more. I sure appreciate it!

    yeah, i'm in the same boat ken, i'm just waiting until it is officially released to upgrade. i did have a media center 2004 pc, and it was pretty sweet, but traded down to 2002 with my new laptop, better computer, not better os, till the release.

    Ken, to clarify, Service Pack 2 will upgrade Windows XP Media Center 2002 to Windows XP Media Center 2004, if you just have regular XP (Pro or Home) you won't get the Media Center features.
