VMRCplus 1.8.0 is available

Release 1.8.0 is available from the Microsoft Download Center. It may not be visible yet when you search for it but it is there.

Click here to download the x86 release, here for the x64 release.

This release matches the update for Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 which was released to support Server 2008 and Vista SP1. Release 1.7.0 was supposed to match that update but despite our assumption that the build would not change, it eventually did. So 1.7.0 incorrectly matches this update with build 1.1.627. The build number of the Virtual Server update is 1.1.629.

So VMRCplus 1.8.0 comes with the binaries of 1.1.629 which reflect the released bits of the Virtual Server update.

It also contains minor fixes. One is the ability to clear the 'run VM under user account'. Another is the support for Undo disks in various location of the UI. Setting the Undo disks options could be confusing which could lead to unexpected or unwanted behavior of Virtual Server. Undo disks options have been removed and context sensitive menu items have been added as a replacement. Management of Undo options has been moved to power options.
The same changes can be found in the Console Manager UI under Control. Finally, the same changes have been made in the VM Properties UI.

Please send me mail on any issues and all things you have tried so far. It is generally much quicker as I don't check the blog every day.

Hi all, I got this message after install VMRC+ x86: "Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)" To solve this issue, I installed .NET Framework 3.5 (I had only 2.0 installed) and everything looks fine. Hope it could help. Thx

Hi guys, dont know where else to post, so I have Server Core with Virtual Server 2005 R2 Sp1 and WinXP SP2 with VMRCplus 1.8.0. Both in the same domain. I can't mount iso images on virtual machines. When I'm selecting iso image on the XP machine with VMRCplus I recieve "The system cannot find path specified", if I'm selecting iso with UNC path, I recieve "Access denied" though share folder has Everyone Full control share and ntfs permissions. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance :).

I have tried all of the posted work arounds to try and get the VMRC Plus to work on my Vista Ultimate (32) workstation, but no luck. I still get the RPC server is unavailable error. The 1.8.0 VMRCPlus works great on the server, but I cannot get it to function elsewhere. I have even gone so far as to turn off the firewall on both ends, again with no luck. The complete error message I get is: The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT:0x800706BA)

useful program, tnx. But i have one little problem. I start it on Win2003Std x86 R2 SP2, connect to VM on other server, and sometimes got problem with typing: it don't type letters, or type it multiple times. Example: i typing: "Loginpassword" and got something like: "Logggiassswrrrrd" in any combinations. Also backspace/delete sometimes removes more than one letter. Could you fix it? (annoying thing, especially when pessword hidden under asterixes)

I' unable to get it to work. I run Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 x64 on Win Server 2003 x64 and I can't manage to connect it with VMRC+. I always get the mesage: "Access denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))". I have added VMRCPlus.exe to my firewall exceptions list for all networks, added my user to local admins group on server (earlier tried Run As with domain admin credentials). Hint: when the user wasn't in local admin group I got different error: "Virtual Server returned 'access denied' (Code 0). You may have insufficient privilages to connect to Virtual Server." I'm using SSL authentication for VS web administration page on port 1025 but I had same problem before I have anebled the authentication.

Sorry to be a pain, this looks like a great tool and I am keen to use it. I've read through the help files and as much on this as I can find on the internet. I am trying to connect to a Virtual Server 2005 R2 instance from a different domain and get "Virtual Server returned 'access denied' (Code 0).".  I know why I get the error and am wondering if there is a way to specify the username and password in the connection settings.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike.

My local lab Setup: Svr 2008 Core SP1 (64-bit) firewall turned off Virtual Server version 1.1.629.0 R2 Sp1 Client: Vista Ultimate (32-bit) Sp2 w/VMRCplus 1.8.0-x86                                                                 firewall turned off                                                                .Net framework 4 Connection to VS through IE 8 works, but the VMRCplus client says:     "The Virtual Server service on server:5900 does not exist or is unavailable or you may not have        sufficient permissions to connect to Virtual Server." I've check the connection using Wireshark on the server and it shows the connection from my laptop with IE8, that port 5900 is the destination. When I try to use the VMRCplus client, nothing shows up on wireshark. I don't see the connection going out of my laptop either when I use the VMRCplus client. As far as I can tell, my setup should work with the client (that is, according to the setup instructions).
