My former employer is taking on my current one - Supermarket enters the software game
I was pleased to see that Tescos are entering the software business. You see during my 4 years at university studying Computer Science I worked semi-full time at Tescos to fund my way through (Great Guiness is expensive don't you kow :-)), stacking shelves. Roll on to 2006 and the pints of milk are being replaced by productivity apps.
Why do I think this is good news? Well, I have 2 (literally) shares which helps but I think seeing the UKs biggest retailer investing in the UK software industry is great for everyone involved in the UK software industry. Which means more developers developing software on the latest technology using great software tools like Visual Studio Team System and Expression.
My software-supermarket-utopia.....being able to tak a device like a UMPC, Smartphone or Zune into my local store (which is literally 200m from my flat - city living, mmmm) and download music to listen while I shop, apps/gadgets for Vista, or e-vouchers to my phone. But I am a bit of a dreamer...
