Happy with my new Lenovo PC
If any of you have followed this blog since its inception you will know that I have spent the last 9 months or so with a Macbook Pro as my main developer machine for presenting and talking about WPF and Silverlight. And since my move to marketing I've had to give back the shiny fruit machine for something more fitting of my role (aka "Mark, we'll give you a normal laptop so someone else can have the shiney toys" :-)).
Thankfully, I have a great boss who understands the need for something with a bit of juice and after a bit of research on the machines available to Microsoft employees internally settled on a Lenovo T60P.
It has all the bells and whistles and gets a better than my old machine Vista Experience Index of 4.2. The only thing I really miss is the widescreen form factor, but that's a fair compromise for a great spec machine with long battery life (nice 5+ hours).
Which is why I thought it interesting that fellow UK DPEer Paul Foster was discussing the merits of powerful PCs versus lesser spec Super-brands. I agree with everything Paul is saying over some of the very large manufacturers but at the same time feel that there are some good guys out there too, like Lenovo. They get bonus points from me for being a 'super-brand' and:
- Their employees blog which is cool - LenovoBlogs.com (I love being able to hear about their latest products and work)
- They are the greenest PC manufacturer according to GreenPeace
- They sponsor local UK Formula 1 team, Williams - may not be as cool as McLaren and Lewis-mania but it's still pretty good in my books.

I am interested in the near future if you have any "issues" with your new Thinkpad. I recently purchased a Dell XPS M1710 but I was very close to getting the T60p as I have used many Thinkpads in the past and they were very nice machines. I have heard from numerious reports (both close friends and internet reports) that since Lenova has been working with these laptops that quality has severly dropped. Thanks and hope all goes well!
