#MakeWhatsNext event, Madrid 28th April

Madrid, 28th April, 9.00AM: +200 girls and + 80 leading professional women in the Tech industry waiting for the event #MakeWhatsNext event to begin. Microsoft, in partnership with other industry players, partners and academic institutions, drove an exciting event to promote and encourage girls to pursue STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) careers.

Women represent 40% of the workforce. In Spain, only 18% of the proffesionals in IT are woman, and only 8% of teenagers girls want to study technical careers, compared to 23% of boys. So what can we do about this? We believe that by promoting female role models, we can challenge existing sterotypes and increase awareness on the theme, to promote more diverse teams and foster innovation.

In the morning, sessions were more focused for younger girls, who are still in school age. Sessions from woman leaders who attended MIT, who are driving the innovation in their companies, who are leading the digital transformation… Women who love technology and who explained the girls that anything can be done, if you are willing to do it.

In the afternoon, sessions were focused for girls already attending the university. Sessions about how to create a LinkedIn profile, the strategy on LinkedIn, what it is needed to be hired and have a good profile, and to finish, a great workshop about Design Thinking.

But this does not end here. It has been created a mentorship platform for the girls to be mentored by professional woman, so they can be in contact, share experiences and reinforce the relationships that began the 28th April.

To sum up, a magical day. Everyone was excited, the speakers were brilliant, the girls were impressed and everything was perfect.

MACH Community was involved in the whole process: preparation of the event, the coordination, the event content, the attendees reception, the mentorship platform… It was a great work, perfectly handled. Congrats to all MACHs involved! :)
