Migrating Your Data Into the SQL Azure Database

Last week a new set of tools was released to support copying of the data to the SQL Azure databases. SSMA (SQL Server Migration Assistant) was updated to support Microsoft Access and MySQL Databases.

To download the tools, visit the following sites:

• SSMA for Access v4.2 enables Access migration to SQL Azure
• SSMA for MySQL v1.0 enables MySQL migration to SQL Azure

These two additions complement previously available assistants for:

• SSMA for Oracle v4.2, enables Oracle migration to SQLAzure
• SSMA for Sybase v4.2, enables Sybase migration to SQLAzure

Read more details on the SQL Server Team Blog, but with these features there is no excuse not to have your data in relational database store, offered as a services. Especially with the new SQL Subscription now available!

  Will there be any update to current SSMS R2 to have GUI support for updates and insertion?

  Good question ;) - there are some query templates in SSMS, so not everything should be done by hand...
