A click click here and a click click there. Oh! My computer has a Trojan!
So I am a big MSN Messenger guy and like those cutesy new Winks, and dynamic Pictures they are creating for these messenger tools. I know. I know - I shouldnt be excited about all this anymore - but these things are soooo neat!
And while I chanced on Muggins - the do-it-yourself dynamic picture that you can do for MSN Messenger.
Muggins Pack A (google that up) is a pack of muggins and for free. THAT is a red-flag which I ignored.
A click click here and a click click there - and a Trojan had been downloaded. MugginsPackA is a Trojan with spyware all over it !!!!
Microsoft's Antispyware Beta (If you have installed it yet - do it) its the best out there - immediately raised a flag saying - this was an unsigned package - sure install it - I said. (see where I am going with this? - its the Wear-your-dunce-hat to-work-day for me).....
3 seconds later - I get the Microsoft Antispyware redflagging over 6 Spywares with abt 18 variants in one another 6 in another.
Whatever late-evening tiredness I had was washed down in a bigger chomp on my protein bar and some more TalkingRain and it was back to uninstalling the spysoftware and running Antispyware to remove them all.
A reboot later my machine was stable and my browser was not hijacked and registries were normal!!! I was amazed.
The Antispyware Beta is da-bomb. It did rescue me from the Wear-your-dunce-hat-towork-Day.
On a positive note - once I took care of all the spyware and BHOs - the muggins were still available and working. Silver Lining, baby ;)
