F# 2.0 brings together functional programming and the .NET platform to create an amazingly powerful tool for software developers and domain specialists. In this talk, we'll cover some of what makes F# 2.0 special today: the combination of succinctness and strong typing, its built-in support for events, asynchrony and parallelism, its combination of functional and object-oriented programming, its tooling in Visual Studio 2010, its support for strongly-typed numeric programming with units of measure annotations, and some examples of its use in analytics and finance. We'll then turn to take a look at the incredible new features we're preparing for the future of F#, including F# Type Providers. You'll see how we're preparing to give the programmer access to an ocean of strongly-typed information, breaking down the walls between the language and the external world of data and services.
