Now Available: VSTS Code Name "Rosario" Aug 2007 CTP

Last week we released the first glimpse of the future of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) with our Visual Studio Team System code name "Rosario" August 2007 CTP. “Rosario” enhances the ALM capabilities in Visual Studio Team System 2008, and focuses on improving the collaboration between development and the needs of the business, and increasing application quality and testing support. "Rosario" is still early in development, as most of our teams are still putting the final polish on Visual Studio Team System 2008.

You may think it odd that we are releasing the "Rosario" August 2007 CTP before we've released VSTS 2008. While its not that odd, it isn't something we have done before. With this CTP release you get a glimpse at our VSTS road map - you get to see where we are going after VSTS 2008. This CTP is only a glimpse of what "Rosario" will offer, and after VSTS 2008 is release, we will have more CTPs and Beta releases sharing with you more of the capabilties and benefits of VSTS in the future.

Features avaialbe in the "Rosario" August 2007 CTP include:

  • Test coverage queries showing Requirements missing tests
  • A standalone manual test runner enabling running tests, publishing results, and opening bugs including screenshots, desktop video capture, automatic system information collection
  • Improved integration with Microsoft Excel
  • The ability to link work items in a parent-child relationship (i.e. tasks and sub-tasks for example)
  • Progress tracking based on parent-child relationships
  • New work item types - Feature, Business Objective
  • Work item dependency identification
  • Work item dependency tracking and reporting
  • New reports - Status Breakdown by Hours, Task Dependencies by Area

I will blog more in the coming days, and get into more exciting detail of what you can do.

Be sure to visit the Visual Studio Team System code name "Rosario" page on MSDN regularly - we will be tracking all the "Rosario" related blog posts and linking to them there, as well as other exciting "Rosario" content.
