Cool mention of Windows Vista Movie Maker and DVD Maker

https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2193575,00.asp

Yes I know it's a little gratuitous :-), but I got forwarded this link today and it is very cool to see someone that is really happy using the products you worked on.

Also, I know I need to start writing some more posts here and try to add some content instead of links to content :-).

Some things that are currently going on:

Just starting to work on the what the object model for Expression Encoder will look like.

I recently got a new laptop which is a tablet (Lenovo X61T). The handwriting recognition in Vista is awesome (I'm writing this with the pen), and the battery life is superb.

My wife is due to give birth to our daughter in about a week. So maybe if the baby keeps us up all night, I'll write some posts then :-)

Yep, nice and easy if everything and everyone had Windows Vista installed but what if I want to put HDV captured content onto good old DVD, so that anyone can play without losing much of the detail?

Although you can't create HD-DVD's, adding HDV files to DVD Maker to create a DVD, will still create a very nice looking DVD. I'd definitely recommend trying it, as you might be surprised at the results.

Since apps can pass can XML file to DVD Maker for burning, why doens't MS write a Photo Story 3 plugin which'll pass the output to DVD Maker?

I'm not aware if Photo Story has a plugin model that would allow you to call other applications. However one of the nice things about PhotoStory is that when you publish your photo story movie to a WMV file it uses the image codec which essentially contains a copy of the image and then the coordinates to do the panning/zooming. So the publish is very very quick and you can then add that WMV to DVD Maker and you don't really suffer any quality loss that can occur with double encodes. Regards Dean.
