Daily Developer Events

I’ve had some great conversations over the past few weeks since announcing my commitment to the Daily Developer Movement, and have decided to post some initial events that I want to get feedback on.

These events are aimed at the non-technical skills required by today’s developer. They are completely selfish, and intended for you, the Daily Developer. You won’t be bombarded by marketing messaging, API’s or code snippets. Instead, these sessions will focus on how to make you more effective as a developer, how to make you more successful as a professional, how to get you from where you are now, to where you want to be in the not too distant future.

Why am I running these events? Because I get the sense that there isn’t enough balance in terms of what we (Microsoft) provide to the community. It’s important to disseminate the technical stuff, but we also spend a lot of time working with all manner of customers, companies and people, and pick up a lot of cool techniques and insights along the way, so it makes sense to share some of that too. And I’m not the only person who will be doing these, but as with most things, if you want to see it roll, you better give it a push.

So onto the pastrami. My first topics that I’ve received feedback on are:

  1. Effective Teaming: Techniques for selecting, tasking and operating high performance teams.
  2. Frontline Consulting: How to identify opportunities, engage customers, and win big!
  3. Snakes and Ladders: How to get from here to there. Tips and tricks on advancing your career.
  4. Passion On Tap: How to tap into your passions to deliver amazing presentations.

OK, now I really need some feedback on this, as I’m keen to see if this is resonating with anyone. My plan is to kick this off post-TechEd, so if there is enough interest in a particular path, then that’s the one I’ll take first.

And this is not just for Microsoft developers, it’s for anyone who is interested in the non-technical aspects of being a daily developer, so the more feedback and input the better, no matter how you pay your bills!
