Microsoft acquires Lookout
I'm sure everyone has heard about this by now. MSN acquired Lookout last week. Lookout is a Outlook add-in that indexes your data and gives you a toolbar like the various toolbars for IE (google, MSN, etc). You can type in a string and instantly find all items that match. You can do things like from:sender to scope it to find messages from a certain sender. I'd been using it before the acquisition, and have found it to be invaluable. It's a feature that Outlook is (was?) sorely missing. I'm glad all of the competition around search has led to more focus from Microsoft in this area. I'm not sure what the plans for Lookout are within Microsoft, but I hope all Outlook users have it for free soon!

Any chance we'll see this technology incorporated into any of Microsoft's Macintosh products? - Anonymous

I don't think it would be directly applicable. It would probably be better for MacBU to figure out the best way to work with Tiger's new Spotlight technology. - Anonymous

Oh, definitely. I'm hoping that Spotlight integration is a slam-dunk for the MacBU. - Anonymous
