Gooooooooooooooogle++
So Google Desktop is currently indexing my computer. I'm at home now, but I'm hoping that when i get back to work it will be done and I can give it a try. If it indexes our C++ and C# sources then it just might be the best thing ever. Well, I lie. It would be better it it worked a la iTunes or XCode which report results instantaneously while you're typing them. But this is still a good start.

It indexes C++ files but unfortunately not csharp files. I've sent them a comment about this.

Yes, the new search stuff for apple is definately cool. We should definately go to RnD North and Innovate that into windows ;) - Anonymous

BillG: You're right. We should. http://www.lookoutsoft.com/Lookout/ is a good start. But we need to work on strongly integrating that into all Apps and user experiences. Quick access to indexed information should be mandatory nowadays. - Anonymous

Copernic Desktop Search (http://www.copernic.com/en/products/desktop-search/) will do find-as-you-type, and will allow you to add text file extensions (such as .cs) to its indexing capabilities. - Anonymous

Take this post as a trackback. There are some of my toughs about the product, privacy and security in mind:

Not only does it index some source code (at least h, c, cpp, java), it caches old files! I don't know the details of how long or how many cached files it will keep. Yesterday it cached 11 copies of a header I was editing during the day, it did the same for a bunch of others too. - Anonymous

Hello,
Okay, there is the part 2 of my thoughts about the subject. It talk about the logging problem with AIM chat software. I think that it's always a good thing to know:

Fred, sounds like a bug. I'm sure google is very sensitive to privacy concerns. I would imagine a later release making it so that it respects your AIM settings. - Anonymous

Don't you already use the C++/C# IFilters? You're really missing out if you don't. - Anonymous
