Supported workbook files in Excel Services
Been getting this question on and off now for a couple of weeks, so I thought I would drop a line about it.
Excel Services ONLY supports two of Excels file formats - the new XLSX and XLSB ones. Other files will raise an error saying that the file is not supported (the actual error message says that it's either unsupported, corrupt or has IRM).
If you only have Excel 2003, we apparently have a compatibility pack that will let you save XLSX/XLSB files from it, allowing you to open these files in Excel Services even if you do not happen to have Excel 2007 client installed on your machine.

Hi,
I have Sharepoint 2007 running on my windows server where i have installed Office 2007 (beta version). I have uploaded a Excel document created on excel 2007 (with extension xlsx). On m yclient PC, i have office 2003 running. SO i have installed the converter, mentioned above. So, on the cleint side i can manage to open the document from server. While saving, i get teh error as "Your changes could not be saved to "filename.xlsx", becasuse of sharing violoation. Try saving to a different file
Any ideas, why i m getting this error message?Anonymous

Could it be that the file is opened on another computer? Try saving under a different name, see if that helps.Anonymous

I try the Excel 2003 with the compatibility, save file as xlsx. But couldn't open via the Excel Service. Those files that created from excel 2007 have no problem at all.Anonymous

- What version of the compatibility pack are you using and what version of the server? These must match.
- What is the error you are getting?

I test the exel service based on MOSS b2tr. Currently, waiting for MOSS released code from MSDN, will set up again. If there is any error will get back to you. Thanks.
