MARK YOU CALENDARS: MSDN Webcast on Windows Mobile Application Development Coming up Tomorrow: Dealing with Form Factors

Hi everybody,

Another week has gone by and it's time for our next webcast in our 24 Hours of Windows Mobile Application Development Webcast Series. Part 3 will air on September 17, 2008 at 10 PST.

This week, Maarten Struys and I will talk about how to deal with different form factors when developing applications for a Windows Mobile device. We will give you an introduction of the different device types that make up the Windows Mobile family. Then we will show you how to create an application that will run on a wide range of Windows Mobile devices. You will also learn you to overcome the challenges when developing for and supporting different devices.

For example, the screenshots below show how changing the orientation can affect the way your application displays. In the device with Landscape orientation, the GPSID Demo that we created for a previous webcast does not display correctly. The bottom part is cut off.

If we switch to Portrait orientation, the part that was cut off on Landscape, appears.

During tomorrow's webcast, you will learn how to avoid and overcome issues like this one.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Great job on the presentation.  I found it to be very informative.  Can't wait for the downloadable version to be made available so I can watch this again.  Questions come up in the MSDN forums all the time about developing for different hardware and the two versions of Windows Mobile.  It will be nice to be able to refer people to this podcast as an answer.
