Contest & WebCast info

There is an Add-in writing contest going on over at https://weblogs.asp.net/rosherove/archive/2004/04/21/117663.aspx. They are giving away some great prizes - including a copy of our book that I will sign.

I just finished up my web cast. It did not go as well as I would have liked, it was not too bad but it is a lot different than talking to an audience at TechEd or PDC. It is a bit odd talking to the wall without any type of feedback about how you are doing - you can usually tell if people understand what you are talking about when they are in front of you. It also did not help when, about 10 minutes before it started, I started getting some popping in my ears - not sure why but it was very distracting.

During the talk I was passed a link to where you can find the IDs to use for bitmaps on command bars, it was at https://officeone.mvps.org/faceid/index.html. I am going to try to post my version of the bitmap lookup tool, as well as sample code from the Web Cast within the next few days (most likely over the weekend). So check back soon...

    I liked the talk a lot. It was packed with some great information. If I had to make a suggestion for improvement, I would suggest tackling VSIP Interfaces in a separate webcast. There seems to be a ton of info for VSIP and I think that there is enough to show on Macros and Addins to fill a single webcast.

    Paul: In the near future Doug Hodges (the archetect for VS) and Ken Hardy (the Program Manager for Extensibility) will be presenting on VSIP, so check back to the MSDN site for info about when that will be happening.

    Craig, is it safe to use Office icons in VS.NET add-in? Will it work even if no Office installed on the client?

    Oleg: Yes, you can use Office Icons in VS even if Office is not installed. All this data is stored in the MSO.dll file, since this DLL contains all the bitmap data, and since we also ship that DLL in VS, then everything will work as it should.

    How easy is it to make your VS addin work as an MS Office addin? Is this even possible?
