The C# Teams Needs Input on VS 2005 SP1 Beta!
The C# Team needs your help! The Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Beta needs more testers doing more testing. We need you to download the beta and start pounding on this release.
This is an important release for the team, and for everyone who is using Visual Studio. The team needs lots of people testing the product, and lots of people submitting bug reports.
Testers are needed both for XP and for Vista. If you are running Vista, be sure to perform the install as an Administrator.
The team wants you to pound on all the features of this product. If you have big projects or small projects, open them up in the beta and test them out.
One area that needs focus is the code in the Web Application Project (WAP) that was offered as a download last March and was updated in May. It was designed to bridge the gap between Web development in VS 2003 and the improved code found in VS 2005. WAP will be included with SP1, so there is no need to install it separately if you try the beta. Scott Guthrie has a post on a fix for an issue that comes up with existing WAP installations if you install the service pack over them.
Thanks for downloading this beta! Your efforts will help to make Visual Studio more useful to developers everywhere.

Hi Charlie. It seems many people are confused about how to use Web Application Projects in SP1 Beta. Maybe you can provide/link-to detail on how to use Web Application Projects in SP1 Beta? e.g. "instead of using FileNew-ProjectASP.NET Web Application you should..."Anonymous

Peter, I'm still a little shakey on what is WAP and what is just a plain vanilla original RTM VS 2005 web project. The person who knows about this, though, is Scott Guthrie, and he has a whole series of tutorials, etc, on the subject. They are here: http://webproject.scottgu.com/

Hi Charlie. It seems most of the confusion around working with Web Application Projects and SP1 Beta stem from the template installation problem when WAP was installed/uninstalled prior to SP1 Beta install. Following the steps at http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2006/10/08/Gotcha_3A00_-Fixing-Error-with-VS-2005-SP1-Beta-and-older-Web-Application-Project-Templates.aspx seem to resolve many of the issues I've seen.Anonymous

I am happy to see KB919095 on the list for SP1. This fix was important for me. I installed this SP1 Beta and VS2005 is working great. For me it's a relief to use a SP instead of the hotfixes. FYI - KB919095 resolved a bug that prevented Table joins when using Oracle and the Query Builder. -Valkyrie-MTAnonymous

Thanks Peter and Valkyrie for writing. Peter, based on what you've said here I've added some text to Community Convergence X to again call attention to Scott's post on Web Application fixes. Valkyrie, I'll try to get your comments to the folks on the team who made that fix.Anonymous
