Community Convergence XXI
Welcome to the twenty-first Community Convergence. I'm Charlie Calvert, the C# Community PM, and this is where I publish information about the C# community and the C# development team.
My fellow Program Manager DJ Park is looking for feedback on compatibility issues in Visual Studio. If you are interested in the details of how to work on the same project in different versions of Visual Studio, then this is your chance to give the C# team some feedback.
What's new in C#
- Don't miss Scott Guthrie's post in which he takes a look at Orcas, LINQ and ASP.NET.
- Also interesting are some Ajax video's that Scott points to from his blog.
- Peter Hallam's intriguing post on what makes a good programmer has generated a string of well argued comments.
- Wes Dyer on Anonymous Recursion in C#.
- After reading Freakonomics, Wes Dyer analyses some statistics using LINQ.
- Wes Dyer discusses lists, fomenting a little push back from one or two of his readers.
- Responding to his readers, Wes Dyer dazzles us by digging deep into what you can do with lists and lazy evaluation.
- Luca Bolognese, C# Lead Program Manager, has has a mind-boggling post with some very heady LINQ based recursion.
- I wrote this overview of database programming in Visual Studio so that I could reference it from my LINQ posts.
- A new LINQ post I wrote focuses on querying databases.
- Have some fun with this fractal program by Charles Petzold. Here is an explanation of the code.
Downloads
- A new Karvonite CTP is available.
Other News
A week ago I had the opportunity to travel to Cairo, Egypt and give a talk at the great MDC 2007 conference. This was the first time I had been to Cairo, and I found it to be a great experience.
Figure 1: The Sphinx with one of the pyramids in the background.
The attendees at the conference were wonderful. They were full of enthusiasm for Visual Studio, and I found them to be, without exception, warm and friendly. While at the conference, I bumped into my old friend Chad Hower from the glory days at Borland. Chad, aka as Kudzu, was a key player in the development of Indie Delphi components, and he was also a key driver behind IntraWeb and ATOZED.
Cairo is, of course, famous for its pyramids. This ancient city also has a wonderful Coptic section where you can find ancient Christian churches. And of course the city is famous for its many spectacular mosques. We saw the famous Mohammed Ali mosque, and also the Rifa'i and Sultan Hassan Mosques.
