Treasure (RS2005 Article)
There a new article about upcoming release of Reporting Services from Steven Swoyer on the TDWI site. The only real quibble I have is with the "SQL-only" FUD from our competitors at the bottom of the article. As many of our customers know, Reporting Services works just fine with non-SQL data sources. In fact, from our beta surveys, we estimate that close to 40% of our customer base uses Reporting Services against non-Microsoft data sources. Unfortunately, our product naming and packaging does get people confused. I like to tell people that you get a free relational database when you buy Reporting Services (our marketing folks might disagree). Anyway, I'm interested in thoughts on whether you think our bundling in SQL is a plus or a minus. Nothing is going to change in the short term but feedback we certainly consider for future releases.
